Chester A. Metcalf III, Ph.D. has served as our Vice President, Discovery Chemistry since September 2009. Dr. Metcalf joined Cubist in 2007 as Senior Director, Medicinal Chemistry, where he established the current Medicinal Chemistry and Discovery Technologies groups for Cubist’s research discovery efforts. Prior to joining Cubist, Dr. Metcalf held various positions of increasing responsibility at ARIAD Pharmaceuticals from 1992-2007, most recently serving as Research Director of Medicinal Chemistry from 2004-2007, where he focused on lead discovery, structure-based drug design, and medicinal chemistry lead optimization for small molecule and natural product therapeutics in oncology, bone disease, and inflammation. Dr. Metcalf has over 17 years of industrial experience and has led groups instrumental in the discovery and development of multiple lead compounds, including 4 clinical development candidates in oncology and anti-infectives. In addition, he has co-authored over 50 publications and is an inventor on numerous patent applications and 7 issued patents. He received his B.S. in Chemistry in 1987 from Wayne State University and his Ph.D. in Organic Synthesis from Yale University in 1992.
